A qualification mode defines which rounds a race class goes through (for example heat → intermediate round → final) and who advances from which race to where. Without a mode, the portal cannot generate races for a class.
Create a mode
- Open “Qualification modes” in the competition's workspace.
- Choose “Create qualification scheme” and enter the name, “Min. entries” and “Max. entries”. The range states how many boats the mode is meant for, for example 10 to 18 boats.
- Under “Race stages and labels”, create the stages in their order: in the “New stage” row you choose the label (for example Heat, Semi-final, Final or Final A) and whether the races of a stage are numbered (“Heat 1”, “Heat 2”) or marked with letters, then “Add stage”. Everyone reads the names in their language: “Heat 1” in English is “Vorlauf 1” in German, on the pages, in the printed lists and on the results page. Where two German names share one English name, the list shows the German one in brackets, for example “Final (Endlauf)” and “Final (Finale)”.
- Create the rules: “From round” and “To round”, the “Rule type” and the “Rank”. “Place in race”, for example, takes places 1 to 3 of each heat to the final; “Time rank (lucky loser)” takes the fastest of the remaining boats by time. With “Source race”, “Target race” and “Target lane” you can specify exactly who goes to which lane if needed. “Add rule” saves the rule.

The rules are grouped by their source stage. A rule must always point to a later stage; the portal rejects contradictory rules and states the reason.
For long distance (mass start without lanes), create a mode with the stage “Long distance”.
Templates
- “Save as my template” keeps a finished mode for later competitions.
- “Import template” brings one of your own templates or a general template into this competition.
- You import modes from the old RegattaManager under Tools.
Assign to race classes
You assign the modes under “Race classes”, tab “Qualification & schedule”:
- For each class the portal suggests the mode whose boat range matches the number of entered boats. “Assign suggested modes” applies all suggestions after a confirmation.
- Several classes at once: select the classes and choose “Assign mode”. The filter “without mode only” shows where a mode is still missing.
- If the mode does not match the number of boats, the list shows a warning.
If the number of boats still changes (late entries, withdrawals), check the assignment before you generate the races. Continue with Create races and draw lanes.
